Old Jones Home: Dining Room

Time for the dining room!  We spend the majority of our day in this room.  At first, this was our living room, but being so close to the kitchen, we decided to change things up and make it our dining room.  We don't have a breakfast table, so this serves as our main eating area.  I somehow did not get a pre-demo picture of this room, from this angle.  So here is one mid-demo, looking at the fireplace.  The fireplace was removed by a previous owner.  It was falling into the house and they were not able to have it restored, so they had it taken out.  We added an electric fireplace.  The two doors on either side of the fireplace were taken out.   They are now the closets in the master bedroom - which is the room that you can see through the fireplace in the "before" picture.  The door on the far right was a full bathroom.  We took out that door and converted that bathroom to the master bathroom.

We covered the fireplace with left over ship lap from the wall we tore down and painted it black.

When we bought the house it did not have hvac, so we put that in.  We had to run vents through the living room ceiling to the master bedroom.  To avoid having fur-downs, Charlie came up with the genius idea of doing a coffered ceiling.  And I love how it turned out!

We removed the wall between the dining room and the kitchen.  We moved the swinging door to the laundry room.

This room is currently going through some redecorating.  I am not a fan of blocking the widows with that piece of furniture, so we are moving some things around.

The hutch was moved from inside of the kitchen to the wall in the dining room

Before

The hutch came apart in three layers - the top, middle (containing the glass doors), and bottom.  Charlie did a great job of putting it back together without breaking anything!  Besides taking it apart and moving it, this is probably the only thing in the house that we did not refinish.  We left it the original color with the original hardware.

Old newspapers found under the wood floors.

Ship lap laid on the floor from the wall that was torn down between the kitchen and the living room.

That's it for the dining room.  Thanks for checking it out!
