Hi there! We are Charlie and Ginni Rickerson. We are not bloggers so no promises on this being anything fancy! It will be very simple and we hope you enjoy the glimpses of real estate, renovation and design that you see along the way. We have been married for nine years and have two sweet kiddos.
Ginni has always loved designing spaces, even as a child she would often rearrange and redecorate her room and would enjoy doing the same throughout other people's spaces. Growing up Charlie enjoyed working with his hands, which most of the time included taking toys and things apart to see how they worked and putting them back together. After we got married our home was often full of projects.
Our first home was an apartment and we loved making the almost 700 sq. feet of space our own. We lived in the apartment for a year after purchasing our first house!
The Before and After
This home was built in 1974 and was a foreclosure. When we bought this house, Charlie had the intentions of buying it as an investment, although Ginni went along with this, her intentions were not the same. Living in the same house her entire life, she envisioned this would probably be their home for a while. This house needed some work when we bought it. We did mostly cosmetic improvements, but also took a closed in porch down to the studs and turned it into an addition that better flowed with the house. A look at the before and after of the closed in porch renovation...
Before
After
This house was built in 1975 and was a more extensive renovation. We put our reconstructive hands on every inch of this house, which included a pretty drastic kitchen and bathroom remodel. A little glimpse of the before and after of the kitchen...
We lived in this house for two years and moved on to the next...
Before
After
The next house was built in 1945. This house sparked our love for making old houses new again. We took this house down to the studs and ended up turning a 3 bedroom 1 bath into a 4 bedroom 2 bath without adding any extra square footage. We really enjoyed making the most of the space that we had. We planned on living in this house for around 5 years. After going to the Swiss Avenue Mother's Day Home Tour we were again inspired by the old homes and the dream of renovating homes like them one day. Ginni's grandfather was the architect and builder on some of the homes on Swiss Avenue and we thought that would be such a cool project to work on one of his houses one day. Although it had been less than two years since we bought this house, we started looking for an old house to fix up. We were looking all over the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, we just knew we wanted something old that needed some love. And this house came up...
Before
After
We weren't sure if this project was even possible for us, it was going to be a lot of work, but we went for it! So this is where the blog will start, with the renovation of the "Old Jones Home". We are also hoping to show some of the work that we have done on our other houses as well as some projects that we are currently doing for clients.
Charlie is a fireman/paramedic and Ginni is a nurse, we won't be quitting our day jobs. Just hoping to take a little leap of faith and see where our talents and passions that God has given will take us. Thank you for following along this journey with us - excited to see where we go!
